Summer BBQ Make-Up

Aloha!

You know that feeling... When you're sipping on an ice cold glass Pimm's and the moreish scent of burgers on the barbi fills the air. The sun is beginning to dip and although it's still warm that light breeze makes for the perfect evening? Yeah THAT feeling. Nothing makes more sense than to enjoy a BBQ on a warm summers evening and that's exactly how I spent my Saturday night. As I was getting ready I noticed my make-up was particularly on point so I thought I'd take a quick pic and share it with you.

FACE

After my usual skin care routine, I always apply Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser on my Tzone, to fill in my pores and provide a smooth base to work with (click here for full review). I then used a large stippling brush to apply the L'Oreal Lumi Magique Foundation. This is a great buy if you're looking for an inexpensive foundation that's light-weight and hydrating. Not only that but it has light reflecting pigments which give you a more radiant and 'luminous' complexion. I also teamed this with the Lumi Magique Concealer to hide my blemishes and under eye circles. I don't normally match foundations to concealers but the other concealers I tried didn't blend as well with this particular foundation.

To set the base I lightly dusted Bourjois Java Rice Powder, with a large fluffly brush, onto my T-Zone, cheeks and chin. This is a powder you need to use sparingly because it's really shimmery (you don't want to end up looking like a disco ball!)To add to the summery vibe of course I applied my trusty Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer in 'the magic three' (under cheek bones, jaw line and temples). Using the bronzer in this way will make your face look slimmer and accentuate your cheek bones, as well as giving you a healthy glow. To finish off, I dusted Bourjois Little Round Pot Blusher (15 Rose Eclat) onto the apples of my cheeks and dabbed Benefit Watts Up Soft Focus Highlighter onto my cheek bones. Remember, when you're applying quite a few make-up products onto your face it's best apply it lightly, it will all balance out once you've finished and it's much easier to build on make-up, rather than trying to fix it, when you've applied too much!

EYES/ BROWS

I always start by shading in my brows with Rimmel Professional Brow Pencil (Hazel). Now I naturally have blonde eye brows that are almost invisible so it's hard to find the perfect match. I've been using the brow pencil since day dot and thoroughly recommend to all my fellow red heads out there! I then used L'Oreal Brow Plumper (Blonde) to add definition and give my brows that oomph. The reason I shade in my eye brows first is because it gives you a frame to work with when applying eye shadow.

Next, I primed my eyes with my holy grail, the Urban Decay Original Primer Potion. Then I used a flat brush to pat Verve from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette onto my eye lids. I then used a fluffy brush to blend Pistol into my crease. Anyone who owns the Naked 2 palette will tell you that these two shades were made for each other. Verve is a light silvery grey and Pistol is a dark metallic grey so pairing these two will make for effortless blending. I then took a small contouring brush to add a v. small amount of Blackout into the outer corners. Applying your eye shadow in this way will give you the illusion of bigger, brighter eyes. This is because, naturally, light shades bring the background forward and darker shades push the background back which is also why we tend to put the darker shade in the crease as it will give you more depth. To finish off my eye shadow I simply used a flat brush to highlight under neath my brows and the inner corners of my eyes.

To complete my eye make-up I lined my top lashes with Bourjois Intuitive Liner (Ultra black), I was sold by the 'easy application' factor but personally I think this it's the sort of eye liner you need to practice with. Saying that, once you have the knack of it, it's easy to create ultra thin or dramatic lines, plus flicks are a doddle! And of course I finished the look with Max-Factor False Lash Effect 24 Hour Mascara (no surprise there hehe).

LIPS

One of the best things about wearing silvery eye make-up is that you can pretty much wear any lipstick you want. If I was going out on the town I'd probably have opted for more of a statement shade but as I was going to a BBQ I thought a soft pink would do justice. This particular lipstick is the Max-Factor Colour Elixir in Stardust Pink. I actually got this one of those ''Spend £15 or more and get a free goody bag deals'' and I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. It's a fairly standard pink I mean most brands would do similar shades but the 'Elixir' definitely keeps your lips plump and hydrated.

June Birchbox

Aloha!

Anyone who lives in the UK will know first hand how unpredictable British weather is. Put it this way, today I wore a simple vest and shorts combo but on Tuesday I was wearing a coat and battling the wind and rain with my umbrella. On this particular Tuesday, after a long day at work, I was walking myself home; determined to get into my warm PJ's. As I approached my front door I noticed a parcel had been left on my doorstep and, to my surprise, it was June 2015 Birchbox! It was so exciting because I thought I'd be receiving it later on in the month and this was just the pick me up I needed.

This months Birchbox revolves around the Great British Summer. The box has been crafted with a summery 'French Sole' inspired design and has a cute toiletry bag to match. What I love most about Birchbox is every single month you get something completely different and a whole new theme. You also tend to get more sample sized high quality products as opposed to Glossybox who, in my experience, give you fewer products but more full sized items. I was subscribed to both but after umming and arring I've actually decided to let go of my Glossybox subscription.

As I eagerly lifted the lid off the little box of treats the first item that caught my eye was the Yes To Cucumbers Facial Wipes. As well as the cucumber (well known for it's cooling properties) the wipes are also infused with Aloe Vera and Green Tea Extract. I used them to remove my make-up to see how effective they were and I actually found my make-up came off quite easily. I still washed my face afterwards but I think for those nights when you stumble in late, after a night out, or mornings when you're running late they'll come in handy. The next item I noticed was the Balance Me Super Moisturising Body Wash. This was a full sized item and it's very similar to the Simple Kind To Skin Body Wash in the way that they don't contain harsh chemicals. This one however uses naturally active ingredients such as Patchouli and Shea Butter to cleanse, hydrate and soften your skin. Now although I absolutely love Patchouli, I am quite particular when it comes to my shower gels but my boyfriend has also been using it and he thinks it's great.

I was also really excited to see the 'Sneak Peaks' I received which were the Stylondon Temporary Metallic Tattoos and the Mirenesse iCurl 24h Mascara. Okay so I'm a fan of tattoos anyway, I mean I have five of my own and one of my bezzies is a tattoo artist so obviously I thought these were a good idea. I've seen these transfers in magazines, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, Instagram but I've never actually bought them so was really pleased Birchbox included this. You get 6 in a packet, some gold and some silver, and I just think they'd be perfect at a concert or festival. The Mirenesse iCurl 24h Mascara came in a little card with instructions on the inside. The brush is very thin and curved which is supposed to deliver a 'wide-eyed beautiful dramatic lash lift & a curl that lasts'. I was interested to see if this would actually work so I used it the following day. I found the brush did separate and lengthen my lashes but it didn't give me quite enough volume and the design of the brush made application time longer. Overall I think it's a good mascara and does give a nice curl but I don't think I'd purchase a full sized one.

The box also included No. 7 For Her 'English Laundry' perfume sample. Which is extremely feminine and sweet. There's a gentle hint of musk but dominantly floral. This is definitely my perfume taste, it has a fun and flirty scent which is light enough for every day use. I've saved my favorite sample til last and was so happy they sent two of these. It's the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil, a 'hair elixir with a difference'. Simply smooth into your locks for a super glossy finish that protects against UV rays and heat damage (you only need a few small drops). I am a huge fan of hair oil at the moment, especially as it's getting warmer because I want to keep my hair hydrated and protected. In the little description Birchbox rave about how nice this product smells and they could not be more right! It almost smells like warm caramel and throughout the day, every now and again, you'll get another waft of it (seriously it's amazing).

So that concludes June 2015's Birchbox. I have to say I'm really pleased with what I got this month, what did you guys think? Did any of you fellow Birchbox subscribers get something different? Share with us.

My New Fav- Rimmel London Colour Rush Balm!

Aloha!

As I was embracing my day off and purchasing some nice new work outfits I past Boots 'All cosmetics 3 for 2' *gasp* of course I couldn't pass up the bargain. I'd actually run out of a few necessities anyway so I thought this would be a good opportunity to hunt out some new editions to my make-up collection and I have to say this is my favourite purchase of 2014 and I cannot stress enough how brilliant it is. Rimmel London Colour Rush Balm (£5.99) is almost like a giant crayon, with a swivel at the base, so you can wind it up and down just like a lipstick. They have a variety of colours ranging from warm nudes to mauves and bright pinks, perfect for the new 2014 spring/summer beauty trends! I opted for On Fire and Keep Mauving as I've always been a love for pinks and have never tried a mauve balm before.

So after a full day of shopping I finally made it home and excitedly laid out all my new purchases, and let me tell you, before I had even fully taken the lid off I was already filled with the scent of an old fashioned sweet shop, which definitely fits in with the whole spring/ candy theme. Normally, I don’t like scented make-up but for some reason it doesn’t seem to bother me if it’s for my lips. I was a bit worried about the sticky factor- I seriously can't stand sticky lip-anything! If it’s even a tad bit sticky I won't buy it, but thankfully this blissful balm isn't sticky at all and actually feels as though my lips are being nourished, very similar to a Chap-stick or Vaseline. It was really easy to apply and despite it being really light weight it has a nice vibrant colour and a high shine. When I'd finished applying I did think to myself that this product is too perfect, it must have some kind of flaw right? Wrong. I actually thought that it would rub off after half an hour due to it's light weight formula but it actually stained my lips for a good 6 hours. I think the only thing that let's this product down is that it's definitely a day time lip. I don’t think the colours aren't strong enough to wear at night for me but paired up with a lipstick and I think we’ll have a nice combo.

Okay so the last thing I want to mention is my favourite feature of this product, the thing is, I'm actually really impressed when it comes to multi-purpose items (that work) and this one definitely made it to the 'Make-Up Favourites' draw. The balms light consistency and splash of colour means it can actually double up as a cheek stain so in second cheeks and lips are perfectly co-ordinated. I haven’t tried this with the mauve shades yet but as you can see in the photo it works a treat with the pinks and reds, it seems to give the impression that you’ve made a real effort when actually it was effortless.

Found any handy multi-purpose beauty buys? Let me know!

January Favs- Lippy's

Aloha!

Every make-up addict has a vice.. For some it's brushes, for others it's eye shadow but for me it's lipsticks. And no matter how many shades of 'coral pink' I have I don't have THIS one. I actually counted my lipsticks the other day, 55 in total, I think it's safe to say I don't need anymore. However, this didn't stop me from purchasing 3 new lipsticks to ease my way into the new spring/ summer 2014 trends.

And from left to right our first summery shade is the Bourjois Rouge Edition (17 Rouge Millesime) £7.99). Perfect for everyday click here it's quite light and glossy yet gives you a sweet splash of colour. Our next shade is the Rimmel Kate's Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick (107) £3.99) I absolutley love this, with a simple eye make-up it makes a nice statement during the day but also could easily be worn at night time. It's a blue based red so for all you fair skinned ladies this will look beaut. The only trouble with it is it bleeds really easily so make sure you line those lips! And lastly we have Rimmel Kate's Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick (110) £3.99) deffo one to watch out for the new 2014 spring/summer trends. Bold orange matte lipsticks are in- along with simple eye make-up and a fresh complexion. This lipstick particularly looks amazing on dark skin but pretty much anyone can wear it, don't be scared to wear bold lipstick! With the right shade it's sure to turn heads.

Light and glossy or bold and bright lips? Let me know!
