Current Skin Care Favs

Aloha!

Whilst I was brain storming post ideas, it suddenly came to my attention, that it's been a very long time since I've posted about skin care. I mean I'll mention products in 'Empties' posts and such like but it's been a while since a whole post has been dedicated to skin care products. I think it's because once I find a routine that works well for me it's a big risk to change products (my skin is so problematic- agr!) . However, lately I have been using some new products that certainly deserve a shout out!

I'll begin with a classic fav, the St-Ives Invigorating Apricot Facial Scrub. I'm sure you've had enough of me singing it's praises, so I won't bore you with the same old song, BUT this as been my go-to facial scrub for years now and although I've tried other brands they just don't have the same effect this one does. It's 100% natural exfoliants remove all your dead skin cells without damaging the surface of your skin. I know I say this every time but I wouldn't recommend using this every day, as it can harm your skins natural repairing system so I'd say two-three times a week is more than enough. For those of you that like a vigorous scrub, this is for you! It will leave your skin feeling fresh, soft and radient without causing increased sensitivity or dryness. I personally prefer to use it in the morning, as it contributes to a smoother base, for when I apply my make-up but you could use it at night time as well.

Next I've been loving the Etre Belle Aloe Vera Ultra Moisturising Gel which I actually got in my May Glossybox. This gel doesn't really have a scent other than the generic 'clean' smell. I've been using it instead of my usual night moisturiser for about three weeks now and found that my skins seems to be a lot fresher and brighter when I wake up in the morning. I feel like it really hydrates the deep layers of my skin (Dermis) which initially I didn't expect as it is very lightweight. The only downside to this product is it's fairly expensive for a 40ml bottle and I don't think it's suitable to use as a make-up base as, when I tried it, the slight residue it left on my skin made it harder to apply my foundation.

For those evenings when my skin could do with a little pampering I use the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. I have a friend, who works in John Lewis, and she said that everyone absolutely loves this cleanser! I was surprised as I'd never heard of it until recently (clearly I've been living under a rock). It came with a pure muslin cloth which polishes the skin, removing all impurities, without any harsh chemicals. Phase one: massage the concentrated cleanser into dry skin to purify, soften and stimulate circulation. Phase two: rinse the muslin cloth in hand hot water before gently polishing off the cream. The first time I used it I felt like I'd just had a facial! I couldn't believe how soft and supple it made my skin feel. It also gave me a complexion boost and seems to help prevent blemishes. Anybody could use this, no matter what your skin type, and contains chamomile, cocoa butter and eucalyptus essential oil; all renowned for their natural skin benefits!

A product I've been using religiously (no exaggeration here) is the Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Toner. It's no secret that tea tree has vast skin benefits, especially for blemish prone skin, so a tea tree based toner seemed like promising product to try. I use this twice a day after cleansing, before moisturising to tone and tighten my pores. It removes all traces of cleanser residue, impurities and oil whilst mattifying your skin. I would highly reccomend this if you have oily or blemish prone skin as using it daily has helped my problem skin massively. What's more, once applied, it gives you a slight tingling sensation and leaves your skin feeling really fresh and clean. From the same range I've also been using the Blemish Gel. I bought this on a whim, as I do get blemishes, and was pleasantly surprised. It's always the last thing I apply at night time, I simply dab the gel onto the blemish and let mother nature work her magic. It has a soft applicator, kinda like a lip gloss, which means you can apply with precision. This isn't the product for you if you need an all over facial treatment but it's good for tackling precised areas. After the first use I found my blemishes were slightly smaller, less red and had dried out a bit. I have now been using it every day, when needed, and it certainly beats Sudocrem!

So those are my current skin care favs, I'd love to know if anyone else uses these and if there are any other wonder products out there so leave a comment and share with the rest of us!

September Favs

Aloha!

So throughout September my negative (or shall we say realistic) side is telling me that judging by the rain, clouds and humidity our short but sweet summer is over :(. Meanwhile my optimistic side is refusing to accept this and is still trying to keep summer alive with gradual tan and fruity/ floral fragrances. Throughout September these products were genuinely my favs consistently and have earned a place on my re-purchase list so would absolutely recommend them.

So I was in The Body Shop and as I'm about to purchase some usual skin care shiz, I see 8 adorable little hand creams! I mean they were only £3.50 each so it was near on impossible to not buy one and of course I chose the coconut one. Partly because I love coconut and all it's health and beauty benefits but also because I already had the hand sanitiser so now they make a cute little couple on my desk. The consistency isn't too thick and is actually a ''light gel-cream'' but it still moisturises and nourishes my skin leaving them nice and soft. What I love most about it is that it's not greasy at all and super absorbent, which is good for me as I simply can't stand greasy moisturisers!

Okay so for those of you that are unaware Boots used to do their own range called 'Extracts' that had body mists, shower gels and things like that. Now a few summers ago I was sat in my friend Beth's car when she pulled out this vanilla body mist and we both ended up drenching ourselves with it because it smelt so so good. Since then I've bought bottle after bottle until the tragic day Boots discontinued their extracts range. However, recently Boots re-launched their extracts range (woop woop) and made it completely fair trade, which you can read more about here. The body mist does cost a little more than it used to at £4.50 but that's not really an issue for me as it is fair trade and you can literally spray it anywhere.. your clothes, pillows, blankets or just use it as a room spray. The vanilla scent isn't as strong as it used to be but it's still sweet, warm and refreshing. Also, you can't smell any alcohol like I could with the Holister Body Mist Review (Laguna Beach/ Tippers Beach)

Okay so I'm going to be talking about both these products together as I have been using them as a pair. I've always kinda had this on going battle with gradual tan moiturisers. I guess I want to like them but I've never really found a good one that I could incorporate into a regular routine, that is until my friend Olivia suggested the Palmers Cocoa Butter gradual tanning lotion. It was only £5.35, which is a really good deal, considering the product has nourishing factors by containing pure cocoa butter and vitiman E and it doesn't have that lingering self tan smell. The best part about this particular gradual tanner is that it isn't greasy and I definitely noticed a difference after the first use. It does appear quite natural on me, which is good as I'm really pale so sometimes fake tan can look a bit weird... the only thing I would suggest through is when applying it to my face and hands I get better results when I mixed it with my regular moisturiser.

Now I've been paring this up with the Soap & Glory Flake Away body scrub. I needed a new exfoliater anyway and the glorious Scent of Soap and Glory sold be again. I chose Flake Away on a wim, at £8, thinking **well if it's not that good at least I'll smell nice** but was surprisingly impressed when I tried it. It's vigorous enough for it to feel like actually beneficial but it's not too harsh to use on a daily. Also, when you rinse it off it kinda feels like there is some kind of light oily residue on your skin, as opposed to the expected dry feeling you get sometimes after exfoliating, so I quite liked that because my skin felt soft and hydrated. I've been using this just before applying my Palmers Cocoa Butter Natural Bronze, they make a really good and easy combo and another pro to Soap & Glory is that they don't test their products on animals.

Well that's it for today, I hope you enjoyed this post and would love to see what your September favs were! I'm sorry I haven't been writing as much.. everything has been a bit up in the air recently but I'll catch you all up on a 'Little Life Update' soon.

What are your September favs?

January Favs- Lippy's

Aloha!

Every make-up addict has a vice.. For some it's brushes, for others it's eye shadow but for me it's lipsticks. And no matter how many shades of 'coral pink' I have I don't have THIS one. I actually counted my lipsticks the other day, 55 in total, I think it's safe to say I don't need anymore. However, this didn't stop me from purchasing 3 new lipsticks to ease my way into the new spring/ summer 2014 trends.

And from left to right our first summery shade is the Bourjois Rouge Edition (17 Rouge Millesime) £7.99). Perfect for everyday click here it's quite light and glossy yet gives you a sweet splash of colour. Our next shade is the Rimmel Kate's Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick (107) £3.99) I absolutley love this, with a simple eye make-up it makes a nice statement during the day but also could easily be worn at night time. It's a blue based red so for all you fair skinned ladies this will look beaut. The only trouble with it is it bleeds really easily so make sure you line those lips! And lastly we have Rimmel Kate's Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick (110) £3.99) deffo one to watch out for the new 2014 spring/summer trends. Bold orange matte lipsticks are in- along with simple eye make-up and a fresh complexion. This lipstick particularly looks amazing on dark skin but pretty much anyone can wear it, don't be scared to wear bold lipstick! With the right shade it's sure to turn heads.

Light and glossy or bold and bright lips? Let me know!
